The cm'linil metabolic rule of glucose (CMRglc) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in rats were estimated noniiivusivi'ly with a high-resolution animal positron emission tomography (PET) system that we recently developed, Quantifications of C'MKKIC and CBF were uttempted with radiotracers, 1HF-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-glucose and ls()-water, respectively. From the data obtained with PKT, the CMRglc and CBF values under prclraatment conditions! were respectively calculated as 51±14/mu>l/min/l(H)g and 61±7ml/min/10Og under pentobtirbital-anesthesia. These values were in close agreement with published data obtained with the autoradiographic technique. Moreover, un increase of 69% (mean) In CBF was detected after i.v. acetazol amide administration. The results indicate Ihnl this high-resolution animal PET scanner holds great potential for the assessment of drug-related metabolic tititl clrcultitory effects In intact "nd cxpcrirm'Msil iwiinmls.
