Gould-Jacob type of reaction for the synthesis of thieno3,2-epyrimido1,2-cpyrimidines (5) has been carried out conventionally by the con-desation between 4-aminothieno2,3-dpyrimidines (2) and diethyl ethoxymethyl-enemaloxate (3) via acyclic intermediates diethyl N-5,6-disubstituted thieno2,3-dpyrimidin-4-ylaminomethylenemalonates (4) and the results obtained were com-pared with single step microwave technique under solvent free conditions for the synthesis of 5.
