NSK has developed highly corrosion-resistant titanium alloy rolling bearings. Titanium alloy is a safer material for the environment and personnel than prior non-magnetic bearing material, such as beryllium copper alloy. Titanium alloy is free from noxious chemical elements unlike beryllium copper alloy. The hardness of this titanium alloy developed by NSK is about 500 HV, which was achieved by optimizing the chemical composition of the alloy and heat treatment conditions. As a result of the higher hardness, incomparison to ordinary titanium alloy, NSK's newly developed titanium alloy can be utilized for bearings. Applications of non-magnetic and corrosion-resistant titanium alloy bearings include electron beam equipment and semiconductor manufacturing devices.
