Rossing Strike Ends but Dispute Continues

Workers walked off their jobs at Namibia’s Rossing mine for three days last week, before a Jul. 14 court order declared the impromptu strike illegal and ordered them back to work at the Rio Tinto-owned mine. Though the mine was up and running by Friday morning, and negotiations between the Rossing management and union started up on Monday, Jul. 18, the dispute underlined the fractious relationship between management, workers and their union.
