JAPAN: Government to Nationalize Tepco

The Japanese government will seek “majority” ownership of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. (Tepco), effectively nationalizing the utility, although the exact percentage of government owner- ship has not been revealed, or perhaps even decided. The move is a step toward releasing some 1 trillion yen ($12.5 billion) requested by Tepco to help the beleaguered utility meet its mounting liabilities.
