Procedure trays: a call to action for sharps safety.

MANY HOSPITALS ARE ROUTINELY offered prepackaged procedure trays containing sharp devices that conflict with mandates of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Blood-borne Pathogens (BBP) standard, which requires hospitals to systematically evaluate and select safety products whenever possible. These trays may also be in conflict with state regulations and with the hospital's own sharps injury prevention efforts. (See Stuck on significant statistics.)
