Critical Care Practicum: An Essential Component in Baccalaureate Nursing Programs.

As the acute care environment becomes more complex, the knowledge and skills once expected of critical care nurses are now applicable to many other areas of nursing practice. However, providing faculty supervision for students in the complex, highly technical critical care environment is costly.The authors discuss the cost-effective critical care clinical experience created collaboratively between their nursing program and an associated healthcare clinical facility. Students acquire clinical skills that prepare them for practice in a wide variety of clinical settings, including critical care.
