Das Quartar in der Stratigraphischen Tabelle von Deutschland 2002

This paper explains the subdivision of the Quaternary which has been presented in the Stratigraphic Table of Germany 2002 (German Stratigraphic Commission 2002). Special emphasis is taken to the glacial influenced regions of northern Germany and adjacent areas as well as the northern foreland of the Alps. For the terrestrial regional stratigraphy, the subdivision of Quaternary successions on the basis of climate has a long tradition. The use of several continental climatostratigraphic classifications in glacials and interglacials is reasonably well-established in different areas of Germany which have been used as regional standards.
