Shirlan - today an important element in the fight against Phytophthora.

The incidence of Phytophthora infestans in Germany in 1997-98 is described, and important requirements of a good fungicide for late blight are discussed. Results are briefly presented from an experiment in 1998 at Meppen where the effects were studied of application of Shirlan [fluazinam], Daconil [chlorothalonil] + Shirlan, Akrobat Plus [dimethomorph + mancozeb], Akrobat Plus + Shirlan or no treatment on potatoes (cv. Florijn). Application of Shirlan gave the best results with a yield increase ofaround 225 dt/ha compared with the control.
