LP plans big mill in MN, could use 1.8 mm tons/yr

Louisiana-Pacific is reviewing investment in a major siding mill in Hoyt Lakes, MN. At full build-out, the estimated $440 million facility would have a diet of 800,000 cords/yr of mostly aspen pulpwood, or about 1.8 million tons. LP executive vice-president Brian Luoma told WBM the mill will augment the company's production of "Smart-Side," rather than replace a mill at another location as some have suggested. Currently, LP operates four siding mills in the Lake States region and one commodity OSB plant.
