I've always enjoyed throwing dinner parties. blame Martha Stewart. Ever since I first saw her on TV colour-coordinating her cutlery, crockery and culinary endeavours, I've felt a peculiar obligation to do the same. Even when I'm hosting a casual barbecue I buy plastic cutlery to match the disposable plates and poney paper napkins. (And my idea of food and wine matching is to serve rosé wine with beetroot soup or pink 'Desiree' potato salad or piles of strawberry meringues.) When it comes to throwing dinner parties, I don't even need a proper excuse. I've been known to invite friends over to celebrate the harvesting of my first cherry tomatoes in summer or simply because I've got an abundance of cabbage coupled with a desire to make coleslaw.
