Since the 1980s, when food and beverage regulations dating back to the 1940s were finally liberalised, an astonishing number of small breweries have sprung up throughout New Zealand. Beer enthusiasts who were strong on technique but woefully short onoperating a business launched many of these. Unfortunately, a large number of these enterprises failed, but those that survive are flourishing, as they cater for the increasingly sophisticated palates of New Zealand's beer drinkers. One such example is Green Man Brewery of Grange Street, Dunedin.
