Guidance Sought on GIS Airport Land Use Compatibility Planning

ACRP issued an RFP to create guidance and resources for airports, local governments, and other stakeholders to use a geographic information system (GIS) for land use compatibility planning around airports. "Aircraft noise and hazards...are common issues that can be mitigated through sound land use compatibility practices," according to the ACRP. "GIS is well-documented as a suitable and powerful tool for addressing not only the technical and analytical aspects of land use planning, but also for enhancing the opportunity for collaborative planning among stakeholders. Yet these benefits have not been fully realized with airport land use compatibility to date."
