Road Noise Said to Degrade Wildlife Habitat

Using an array of speakers, biologists at Boise State University, Boise, Idaho, created a landscape-scale phantom road in the path of migrating songbirds to test the effects of noise. Nearly one third of the birds avoided the phantom road and for some of the species that remained despite the noise, body condition and stopover efficiency (ability to gain body condition over time) decreased.
