Feds, Environmental Groups Reach Agreement on Navy Training Limits

A settlement agreement between environmental organizations and the federal government will, for the first time, put strict limits on Navy training exercises in parts of the Pacific Ocean. Designed to protect marine mammals from harmful levels of noise, the agreement and court order include prohibitions on the use of explosives and mid-frequency active sonar (MFAS) in certain areas of biological importance during certain times of the year.
