Transparent Sound Barrier Wins Innovation Challenge

SkyWall, a sound barrier designed by the French firm Redarchitectes, took first place in the 2014 International Swedavia Airport Innovation Challenge. Almost 1,000 participants from 87 different countries submitted entries. "[The] challenge was to find smart solutions to reduce ground noise in the residential area of Bromma Kyrka, situated close to Bromma Stockholm Airport," according to the sponsors. "The area is exposed to sources of ground noise such as aircraft starting their engines and taxiing, and from service vehicles operating at the airport."
