Spain Deploys System for Detecting Undersea Noise

Spain's Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) has developed a hydrophone-based system for recording sounds on the ocean floor. New algorithms created by the university's Applied Bioacoustics Laboratory (LAB) automatically interpret the sounds, classify them in real time by their biological or anthropogenic origins, and identify and logical or anthropogenic origins, and identify and analyze the species of cetaceans present in the area.
