63 billion aluminum cans recycled in U.S. in 1995

The U.S. recycled 62.7 billion aluminum cans last year, a modest drop from the total in 1994, report the Aluminum Assn., the Can Manufacturers Institute, and the Institute for Scrap Recycling Industries. The 1995 total represents 62 percent of the 100.7 billion cans produced last year. In 1994, the U.S. recycled 64.7 billion cans, or 65 percent of the 99 billion cans produced in that year. The recycled cans in 1995 weighed a combined 2.02 billion pounds, compared with 2.15 billion pounds in 1994.
