Ferc orders utilities to open transmission lines

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) has issued a ruling that orders electrical utilities to open their transmission lines to outside providers of wholesale electricity. The ruling requires utilities to file an open-access tariff for transmitting electricity from third parties within 60 days of May 10th. when the ruling appeared in the Federal Register. Ferc's Open Access Rule, formerly called the Mcganopr, essentially permits wholesale buyers of electricity to purchase power from electricity generators that don't own transmission lines. This includes small, independent facilities and co-generation plants.
