PRESSURE OF AN ELASTIC BODY ON A RIGID BASE WITH A RECESS PARTIALLY FILLED WITH A LIQUID THAT DOES NOT WET THEIR SURFACES

We have investigated the contact interaction of an elastic body with a rigid base having a surface recess causing a gap between the bodies. At the gap center, there is an intersurface bridge of an incompressible nonwetting liquid, and, at its edges, there is a gas under a constant pressure. Using the method of functions of intercontact gaps, we have reduced the problem to a singular integral equation for the gap height, which has been solved analytically. We have also analyzed the dependence of the length of the region with the liquid and its pressure on the load, liquid volume, and its surface tension.
