Use of Drugs in Long QT Syndrome Type 3 and Brugada Syndrome

SCN5A gene-related channelopathies, long QT syndrome, and Brugada syndrome are well known; both cardiovascular and noncardiovascular drugs can have detrimental effects in these disorders.The mechanisms by which these drugs can be dangerous, particularly through further reduction of /_(Kr )and /_(Na )for long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome, respectively, are understood.Administration of drugs with possible untoward effects in these syndromes requires careful consideration and monitoring.Online databases are available to help the physician determine which drugs are potentially unsafe.
