Infill Walls in Light Steel Framing

An increasingly important use of light steel framing is in non-load bearing infill walls in steel or concrete framed buildings. Here, the infill walls are used to support the external cladding to create a 'rapid dry envelope'. The same form of construction is used for the external fit-out, especially for separating or compartment walls, where a high level of acoustic insulation and fire resistance is specified.Lafarge Plasterboard, Metsec Framing and other companies who are active in this sector, have completed some major new-build and renovation projects. The infill walls consist of C-sections of 100 to 150 mm depth that are installed on site, or in some cases, as pre-fabricated panels. The walls can he installed rapidly without significant site storage of materials and without 'drying out' time, which is important for residential projects.
