"The industry has been demonstrating an up-and-down pattern for the past year, and February's decline returns the index to the low end of its recent range," says Robert A. Murray, vice president of economic affairs for F.W. Dodge. Contracts for non-residential building decreased by 7 percent in February. Store construction dropped by 4 percent, while offices were down by 5 percent and warehouses, 11 percent. Hotel construction rose by 14 percent, however, partly because two major hotel/casino projects began in Las Vegas.
