Marc Jeannerod (1935-2011): The movement of the hand

Marc Jeannerod, neurologist and neurophysiologist, professor of Physiology at Lyon Claude Bernard university medical school and one of the greatest French physiologists of the 20th century, passed away on July 1st 2011. He became the second editor-in-chief of Neuropsychologia, after its founder Henry Hecaen, holding the position between 1981 and 1990, a position from which he could observe, support, and help shape the evolution of the emerging discipline of Neuropsychology that is now part of the realm of cognitive neuroscience. He was internationally recognized for his broad expertise in neurophysiology, experimental psychology, neuropsychology, and cognitive neuroscience. His research, which focused on neurophysiological and cognitive mechanisms underpinning motor control, spatial and motor cognition, the sense of agency, and the link between motor behaviour and representations with language and social cognition, integrated studies of the healthy brain with neuropsychological approaches.
