Use of hygienic sealing equipment in food and beverage factories is discussed with reference to: choice of suitable sealing material (difference in properties of EPDM materials, concerns about influence of flavouring ingredients on material integrity); basic design of seals used for food and beverage processing equipment; seals for food couplings and clamp connections; and an example hygienic design solution (replacement of an O-ring type seal).
