摘要

Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a native of India and is extensively grown in all South-East Asian countries. It is one of the most important and popular vegetable crop grown round the year in most of the parts of India. The shoot and fruit borer (Leucinodes orbonalis Guen.) is the most serious pest of eggplant in India. As much as 70 per cent of the fruits have been reported to the damaged by larvae of this insect (Krishnaiah et al., 1976). With the continuous use of insecticides for its control,it is feared that this insect may become resistant towards insecticides. Furthermore, the present control measurements are not fully effective and are also costly and hazardous Hence, resistant varieties against this pest are urgently needed, Resistantmay be due to physical, biochemical or both combined factors. Therefore, in the present study efforts were made to determine the biochemical factors of resistance in eggplant against shoot and fruit borer.
