When the planners at Hatfield Quality Meats invested in a new carcass grading system, they also built in a unique payment plan tailored to reward pork producers and meet retail needs for their branded products. The Hatfield, PA, packer-processor is the first U.S. packer to pay for hogs based on the Danish Autofom grading system. The packer's aligned buying program is an industry first in that it pays for carcasses based on the value of the cuts and not on percent lean.
