A simulation study of the regulation of a micro-hydroelectric power plant

This article studies, in simulation, the mixed and downstream regulation of an isolated micro hydroelectric power plant (MHPP). A model of the MHPP was developed with simulink based on the work in reference l. The model is used to evaluate the performances of the upstream regulation with PID compensator and anti wind up system. Then, we compared performances obtained with those of the mixed regulation. The results of simulation showed that at the time of an important load variation, the regulation by a simple PID didn't eliminate the possibility of runaway of the turbine. With a mixed compensator, the response of the system was extensively better and became insensitive to load variations.
