Labour productivity could be increased by management of field operations

A study was carried out at tea plantations located in Lakhimpur and Sonitpur districts of Assam during 2008-2012, to determine measures to enhance their productivity. It revealed that productivity of tea plantations could not be increased by mere increase in number of workers per unit area. Tea plantations having 2.11 workers per ha had achieved maximum productivity (2.81 tonnes/ ha). It was due to involvement of tractors and management of field operations, which increased area under high quality oftea bushes.
