Marine plant extracts have become increasingly popular over the past decade as useful inputs into crop agriculture. Research on the efficacy and mode-of-action of Ascophyllum nodosum extracts products has often focused on hormonal or nutritional cross-function in identifying specific plant benefits. More recent research has concentrated on manifested resistance against plant diseases. This impressive novel research, presented in Athens by Dr Jeff Norrie of Acadian Seaplants Ltd in Canada examines effects from the molecular level through to plant phenotypic (field) responses. Although the literature often extols benefits to seaweed extracts by identifying an end-result, this research provides significant depth to mechanisms-of-action hypotheses whileconnecting physiological elicitation to plant growth and development.
