BEN FRANKLIN IS quoted as saying "two things are guaranteed in life, death and taxes". While taxes may be unavoidable and certainly more frequent than death, part of business is ensuring that you only pay the tax that you have to and no more. I am, by no means, an expert on taxation so I spoke to an accountant Joe Pien, principal of Joe Pien Chartered Accountant who counts photographers among his clients. I also spoke to a few of Australia's more successful photographers about their tax planning, strategies and tips for pocketing more of your hard earned dosh. While they are not qualified to give tax advice they are good business people.
