Synthesis of Bistrimethylsilylated Hydroxy Alkynes

The syntheses of several bistrimethylsilyl hydroxy alkynes and one tristrimethylsilyl hydroxy alkyne are described. Addition of lithium trimethylsilyl acetylide to mono- or bistrimethylsilylated aldehydes and ketones afforded compounds 4a-f in good to moderate yields. The products are mixtures of diastereomers; the diastereoselectivity of the reactions amounts to 53 to 68%.
