Two new three-dimensional lead(II) coordination polymers, [Pb-2(4-bpdb)(NO3)(4)](n) and [[Pb(4-bpdb)(NO3)(PhN2O2)](2)](n), were prepared and characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopy and elemental analysis. In addition, the molecular structure of [(Pb(4-bpdb)(NO3)(PhN2O2))(2)](n) was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Photoluminescence properties of complexes showed that a good correlation exists between the structure of complexes and emission wavelengths. Utilization of cupferron ligand as a second ligand in the structure of [[Pb(4-bpdb)(NO3)(PhN2O2)](2)](n) enhanced the luminescence properties of it in comparison to [Pb-2(4-bpdb)(NO3)(4)](n). Application of [[Pb(4-bpdb)(NO3)(PhN2O2)](2)](n) in fabrication of an organic light-emitting diode has been demonstrated. Nano-lead(II) oxide core that resulted from direct thermal decomposition of complex [[Pb(4-bpdb)(NO3)(PhN2O2)](2)](n) at 600 degrees C in air was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The photoluminescence emission spectrum of the nanosize lead(II) oxide core revealed a strong blue emission band centered at 462 nm, which might be associated with oxygen vacancies.
