US LNG Export Debate Heating Up as Projects Inch Toward Reality

Last week was hit and miss for proponents of US LNG exports. Even while the US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a second forum on natural gas, during which testimony was heard warning about the dangers of stymieing US exports, US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz told reporters, shortly after being sworn in, that he is in no hurry to open the spigots. Instead, Moniz said he would be reviewing the governments existing studies on the impact of LNG exports, which raises the possibility that it will be a while before another US LNG export project is cleared to export gas to a country without a free trade agreement (PTA) with the US.
