Dominion Wins Virginia Offshore Wind Tracts

In a few years, wind turbines in the Atlantic waters next to Virginia could be harnessing energy for the first time. The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) auctioned off 110,000 acres as a single block in an auction last week won by Virginia Electric and Power, a unit of mid-Atlantic electric utility giant Dominion Resources. With $1.6 million in high bids, Dominion outbid Virginia Apex Offshore Wind, the only other participant.
