A French parliamentary report proposes that the country's ban on hydraulic fracturing in force since July 2011 should be reexamined on the basis of scientific evidence and economic interests. The study, one of several forthcoming internationally, may reopen the debate over shale exploration in France but won't lead to any near-term change in the legal status quo there. The US Energy Information Administration estimates France has 180 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable shale gas reserves.
