The US Senate is expected to hold a vote soon on legislation that would reduce the amount of energy wasted at industrial sites, commercial buildings and homes across the country. The efficiency legislation sponsored by US Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-New Hampshire) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) would set stronger building codes and expand grant programs for projects that curb consumption of natural gas or electricity. It also directs the US Department of Energy to establish efficiency strategies for the entire supply chain of major industrial sectors.
