South La. Hot Spot in State Lease Sales

Since October, Louisiana state officials said they have seen the balance of leases being sold shifting from the drier Haynesville Shale in the north to more liquids-rich developing plays in the southern parishes. From October through January, the DNR reports that 81 tracts have been awarded with 61 of those being in the southern parishes. A breakdown showed that in October, 17 leases were awarded with eight in the north and nine in the south; 15 in November, with two in the north and 13 in the south; 25 in December with four in the north and 21 in the south; and 24 in January, six in the north and 18 in the south.
