Balancing natural environmental qualities with energy development is expected to become tougher in Alaska as producers branch out from established fields, like Prudhoe Bay, in search of new locations. Areas of interest include the Outer Continental Shelf, National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska and the Arctic coastal plain, which are believed to be rich in natural gas.
