The surprise retirement earlier this month of Encana Chief Executive Randy "Eresman may not have come as a huge surprise in Calgary but the apparent lack of a succession plan — and the explanation from his interim successor that he stepped down because "he was tired" — does not bode well for Canada's largest gas producer. The fact that the announcement came late on a Friday afternoon and included the provision that Eresman would immediately step down from the board of directors indicates that other Encana executives were as eager for his departure as Eresman was to vacate the premises.
