Preliminary reports are beginning to emerge that all but promise natural gas producers that hydraulic frac-turing itself will pass environmental muster, but they will have to operate with more regard for the overall en-vironmental impact of natural gas and oil E&P. Even while the US Environmental Protection Agency wrestles with its study on hydraulic fracturing, New York State has signaled that drillers will be able to re-sume drilling requiring fracturing except for areas in or just outside the watersheds of New York City and Syra-cuse and on state lands (related).
