The takeover battle for US natural gas pipeline and LNG terminal operator Southern Union has ended with upstart Energy Transfer Equity (ETE) prevailing over long-established WiUiams. The $9.4 billion deal includes $5. 7 billion in cash and Energy Transfer unils to be paid to Southern Union stockholders. The remainder is debt assumption. The transaction reassembles a significant portion of the former Enron pipeline network. ETE"s operating affiliate, Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), already owns Transwostern Pipeline, which runs from West Texas to the California border, and Houston Pipe Line, one of the largest Texas intrastate systems.
