Firm Developing Project Fueled by Landfill Gas

About 2,800 homes near Hilbert, Wisconsin, could be getting their electricity thanks to an untapped power source in their own backyard—landfill gas. Veolia Energy North America has reported its first landfill gas-to-energy project in the US at the Veolia Environmental Services North America Hickory Meadows landfill, located near Hilbert in Calumet County. The project, slated to commence operation in early summer, will have the initial capacity to generate 42,000 MWh of electricity per year, said Veolia Energy North America Chief Executive Stewart A. Wood.
