Programs Ramping Up Diesel-to-NatGas Switching

As US operators continue to deliver impressive production growth from improved well performance in the nation's prolific onshore shale gas plays, the number of demand outlets for these incremental volumes has inched steadily higher among producers and services firms alike. Earlier this month, Cabot Oil & Gas announced the first use of field gas to power its hydraulic fracturing equipment in northeastern Pennsylvania, where it is targeting the Marcellus Shale. The company predicts it could displace up to 70% of the diesel fuel used to operate its tracking equipment by switching to cheaper, cleaner-burning natural gas.
