"If you weren't an optimist, you wouldn't be in this business," Rich Kolodziej, president of Natural Gas Vehicles for America (NGVA), told the crowd at the 2012 NGV Conference and Summit held in the Chicago area last month. In a speech entitled Creating a Common Vision: Leading our Industry's Pathway to Growth, Kolodziej started out with some market projections. A PIRA study sees high-case annual natural gas demand for fleet vehicles at 5.1 tillion cubic feet by 2030, or 20% of current gas consumption in all applications, or 113 times what we're using now. The low case has demand at 2.5 Tcf, or 57 times current consumption. "These are huge numbers," Kolodziej said, adding that nobody could have anticipated this kind of growth even as recently as three to five years ago.
