Greenpeace Subs to Watch Arctic Drilling, Feds, Shell Getting Ready

Greenpeace USA is apparently upping the stakes in its bid to monitor Royal Dutch Shell's drilling in the Arctic this year. The green group will be using two small submarines - one one-person and a two-person vehicle - operating from the Esperanza, an ocean-going vessel that Greenpeace will use to monitor the drilling. Shell is waiting for a final set of drilling permits before sending the ice-class drilling barge Kulluk and drillship Noble Discoverer to the Arctic drilling site. The vessels are currently moored at a staging area in Seattle harbor.
