摘要

Natural gas is likely to make inroads into the US transportation market and the global shipping business in coming years, according to industry experts speaking at the annual meeting of the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM). The combination of lower costs and environmental benefits will allow natural gas to steal market share from oil-based fu- els in the transportation sector, especially for commercial transportation, according to Tim Fitzgibbon of McKinsey & Co. "Growth in US natural gas production will continue to exceed consumption growth, providing natural gas with a sustained price advantage over diesel," Fitzgibbon told the recent AFPM gathering in San Antonio, Texas. Until recently, natural gas has been held back in the US trucking industry by the classic "chicken and egg dilemma," with neither truck makers, fleet owners nor fuel providers willing to make the first move.
