US December Natural Gas Up a Dime on Cold Weather Hopes

US December natural gas futures rose to the mid-$3.60s going into the weekend as the market looks past currently demand dampening warmer weather to colder long-term weather forecasts. "For the near future it looks like the front month is very comfortable within the $3.40 to $3.80 range and it will take some very abnormal weather to move out of that range," Gelber & Associates analyst Aaron Calder said Thursday in a note. "If coal continues to trade at its current level around $3.50 it will be difficult for natural gas prices to move above $3.80."
