Federal officials will sign a contract in June that will start the ball rolling on removal of the current barrier to gas development on federal lands within Colorado's Roan Plateau, US Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne announced last week.By law, Anvil Point, a former oil shale site in northwest-em Colorado, must be cleaned up before drilling on the federal naval oil shale reserves (NOSR) can begin.The NOSR was previously held as contingent energy supplies for the military until their release in 1997 by Congress. The coveted 73,000 acre area is believed to hold trillions of cubic feet of natural gas.
