Japanese Make Breakthrough In Harvesting Methane Hydrates

Japanese researchers and drillers have produced the world's first natural gas from methane hydrate deposits under the seabed. The Japan Oil, Gas & Metals National Corp. (JOGMEC) said in a statement posted on its website that the gas was produced from a methane hydrate deposit about 990 feet beneath the seabed on the Nankai Trough 31 miles off Honshu island.
